JLL Singapore rallies to help a charity in need

Volunteers help pack food to support families.

May 08, 2020

With Singapore under lockdown, charities that provide crucial food supplies to families in need have faced hugeoperational and supply chain challenges, just when demand for their services are increasing. One such charity, Food from the Heart, lost 90% of its food and cash donations, and saw a drop in volunteers. Ibnu Abbas, a graduate trainee in JLL’s Singapore office and part of the JLL Club’s Corporate Social Responsibility committee, had previously organized volunteering opportunities for JLL staff. Hedecided to answer the call and rallied his colleagues to donate and volunteer their time.“It seemed like something we could do that would help a lot of people,” Abbas says. JLL and LaSalle Investment Management have worked hand-in-hand to raise SGD11,700, or over $8,200, and still counting. Food packing sessions quickly filled up with staff keen to support the charity. Each was limited to 10 mask-wearing volunteers, with the floor clearly marked to maintain safe distances.“Food from the Heart have beenin touch to express their gratitude,” Abbas says. “They really appreciated us stepping up to the challenge so they could continue their crucial work.”
